I only got 3!!!

Harm and I love giving out candy to the kids at Halloween. This year we went waaay overboard and bought too much. There was a discrepancy between Saturday and Sunday... whatever. Anyway, we ended up with too much candy. So, that brings me to this post. One of the first kids that came to the house was super excited to be trick-or-treating. We were his first stop, and it was obvious he was looking forward to getting tons of candy that night. He looked like he was 4 or 5, and he was really excited (did I mention that?). Anyway, we gave him and the two other kids with him three pieces each and sent them on their way. Promptly upon receiving three pieces of candy, he looked in his bag, looked back at us, then looked towards his parents at the road. He then proceeded to scream back to them "I only got three!!!"

Now, your initial reaction may be the same as my initial reaction. Spoiled brat. However, in reality, I think a lot of us act this way all the time. Why do people play the lottery? It's just a get-rich-quick scheme. The lottery is an excuse not to work for getting rich. Unfortunately, many people dream of having riches beyond their wildest dreams without having to put in the work to get it. The sad truth to this is that there are people who are fortunate to have made millions in short periods of time. However, (with the exception of the lottery), the vast majority of those cases have years of hard work behind them, but the only thing that is published is the quick profit.

In reality, many businesses and individuals make profits each and every day one customer and sale at a time. What we have to realize is just like the kid with the candy these profits may come few at a time, but at the end of the day (quarter, year, ..., life), we will have a bag-full of profits to use. Unfortunately, we are a "now" society and don't want to wait for accumulation of wealth. We just want it now.

Patience is a virtue. Money is not everything. Enjoy life while you can no matter how much money you have.

What do you struggle with being patient and waiting for? What helps?
